A total of six African countries have indicated interest to participate in the forthcoming Professional wrestling championship slated for Nigeria and Togo in July this year.
The countries are; Nigeria, Togo, Benin Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Ghana.
The championship which will be under the supervision of The ‘Shaolin Master’ Simba Bafuka, coordinator and head coach at the Brussels Young Wrestling Style (BYWS), Brussels, Belgium according to the Secretary General of Pro- Wrestling Africa, the sanctioning body of the championship, is aimed at further development of the mats man game in the continent as well to give wrestlers opportunity to text their mights against some of the best fighters in the continent.
“We at Pro- Wrestling Africa in conjunction with the Shaolin Master of Brussels Young Wrestling Style (BYWS), Brussels, Belgium are happy with the interest shown by these countries to be part of this epoch making championship and we hope that before July, more African countries will submit entries to be part of the event.
“It’s also important that I inform you that it is coming as part of the collaboration we had with the Shaolin Master who is out to take wrestling to all the nooks and crannies of Africa and this is just the beginning of better things to happen in the sports in the continent of Africa.
Olukoya further explained that the championship will also enable young and upcoming wrestlers particularly from the West Coast of Africa to be exposed to the rudiments of the game, noting that all logistics are being put in place for a successful championship.
Speaking from his base in Belgium, ‘Shaolin Master’ Simba Bafuka, who recently donated a wrestling ring to Togo Catch, the body responsible for professional wrestling in the West African country said that he’s eargely awaiting the July date which will also give him opportunity to have a proper assessment of African fighters.
” I’m highly excited with the forthcoming championship because having visited Nigeria and Togo where I organized some wrestling seminar and followed it up with the donation of a ring to the Togolese, it will afford me the opportunity to assess their performance and also rob minds with the stakeholders of all the participating countries on how to move the game forward in their respective countries, and I want to assure you it’s going to be a bang”, he concluded.
