2026 Niger Delta Games:Team Imo In Para Powerlifting Medal Rush

It was a moment of pride and celebration for ‘Team Imo’ at the ongoing Niger Delta Games, as the state’s para powerlifting athletes delivered an impressive medal haul.

The Imo contingent showcased strength, determination and resilience, clinching one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in different weight categories.

In the women’s 45kg class, Chioma Enwerem powered her way to a silver medal with a lift of 70kg, demonstrating remarkable composure on the platform.

Kasarachi Ugochukwu added to the tally in the 67kg class, securing a bronze medal after successfully lifting 85kg in a competitive field.

Team Imo struck gold through Akubeze Awunezie in the men’s 65kg category. Awunezie dominated his class with an outstanding lift of 155kg, earning the top podium finish and drawing loud cheers from supporters inside the hall.

Ujunwa Chinyere also made her mark in the +86kg female category, winning a bronze medal with a lift of 90kg to further boost the state’s medal count.

The medal rush at the event, confirmed Team Imo’s growing strength in para powerlifting, as the athletes continued to make the state proud with their inspiring performances.
