Niger Delta Games : Team Edo in early lead with 15 gold medals

After two days of stiff competitions at the ongoing Niger Delta Games, Team Edo has now taken the lead on the medal table.
According to the official medal table released yesterday by the organisers, ‘Team Edo’ have so far won 15 golds to occupy the number one position and are followed by Team Delta with nine golds, while last year’s champions, Team Bayelsa are third on the log with eight gold medals.
Team Rivers are fourth on the table with just two golds and closely followed by Team Ondo with same number of gold medals, while Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Imo States have won one gold medal each.
At the bottom of the table is Abia State with zero gold.
Meanwhile, actions continue today in the swimming events where more medals are expected to be won with Team Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Rivers and Ondo as favourites for the medals rush.
In some of the swimming events decided yesterday, hosts Team Edo put up a remarkable performance as they displaced the powerhouses of swimming in the country; Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa, winning six out of the nine gold medals available on Day one of the swimming events.
Talented Precious Tissa, Lucky Ayeni. and Joy Peremoboere’s performances gave a boost to the host team who claimed multiple gold medals to the delight of the Executive Chairman Edo State Sports Commission Hon Amadin Desmond Enabulele and his management team who were at the venue to support Team Edo.
