Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) States Assembly Forum, (ASAF), Ambassador Fubara Dagogo, has been asked to contest the South south vice chairmanship position of the ruling party, at its March 28 national convention.
Ambassador Dagogo, who has been a legacy and foundation member of the APC was called out by a group of APC South south stakeholders, during a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday
Spokesperson of the group, Hon. Teibowe Diepriye, said the stakeholders from South – South zone of the party have resolved to send the ASAF DG as it’s representative at the APC NWC, ahead of the proposed National Convention, stressing that the zone stands to benefit a lot under the youthful leadership of Fubara Dagogo in the party’s leadership organ
He emphasized that the zone requires a member of the NWC whose voice must be heard in it’s interest, noting that it has provided much support to the APC, to deserve a strong representation at its leadership
Diepriye explained that with the entire South – South states now in APC, coupled with the resounding support the party has received from the zone, which he noted and assured would be further consumed in its anticipated total support and massive vote for president Bola Tinubu and other candidates of the APC in the 2027 general election, the zone should now, position a member of the NWC who will protect its interest, rather that a selfish pursuit, which it noted previous members have involved in.
The group, which described Ambassador Fubara as a fighter for the people, noted that the ASAF DG has shown much concern on the development of the APC from the grassroots to the centre .
It regretted that the South – South APC has in the past been placed in the hand of political traders who see such positions as an avenue to work for themselves, even when they do not have anything to offer the party in terms of grassroots stability and voters strength
Describing Fubara Dagogo as a legacy and foundation member of the APC, the stakeholders emphasized the need to hand the party’s leadership over to those members that continue with the ideology of the party who are passionate about its growth as well as protecting the interest of the entire members.
“This is the time for us to play the real politics by empowering genuine members. We call on the APC members across the country to take the opportunity that would be provided by the upcoming convention to get it right as a leading political party in Africa. The APC has grown to be respected outside our country and compared to the likes of Africa National Congress (ANC) in South Africa, the Labour Party and Conservatives Party in the United Kingdom, the Democratic Party and Republican Party in the United States of America. These political parties are not only strong through their candidates for elective offices, but from their leadership structures
“For us at the South – South zone of the APC, we want to lead with example by presenting a reformer, a true and pragmatic passionate party man as our leader at the NWC. With Ambassador Fubara Dagogo as our zonal chairman, the APC will see in him, a great difference from what we used to have in the past
“It is our desire that Ambassador Fubara Dagogo begins from the South south zone, as our chairman to actualize the process that would place our great party on global radar with international recognition,” the stakeholders noted
