NNL Chairman Aluo Hails SWAN On Sports Year Book

Chairman of Nigeria National League, Mr. George Aluo has hailed Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for publishing a book that tells the history of Nigerian sports from the pre- colonial era to the present time.
He made the commendation last Friday when members of the book publication committee, officially presented a copy of the book to him on the sidelines of the NNL Super 4 draws held at the Marriot Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos
According to Aluo whom himself is a veteran sports journalist, the decision of the sports writers to document not only the history of the country’s sports but the exploits of her athletes in a book form is worthy of commendation as the book will serve as a reference point for generations yet onborn
” I’m highly excited that this book is coming from those who report sports. It shows that apart from reportage, they can also engage in research work, aimed at giving adequate information about how various sports started in the country, the pioneers of the sports, international competitions attended, medals won and those who first put the country’s name in the world map of sports. I doff my hat for them.
Presenting the book to him, leader of delegation and chairman of Lagos State Chapter of the association, Aaron Akerejola explained that the decision to come out with the book was borne out of the desire for journalists not to rely on second hand information to tell stories about their constituency.
“This book was written after careful research and it provides an in-depth information about all sports, their exploits and athletes with outstanding performance and we wrote it not only to celebrate our heroes, heroines and administrators but to provide regular reliable guide for our future generation”, he stressed
Lagos SWAN Chairman while commending Aluo for the transformation he had brought to the NNL since assumption of office, pledged the support of SWAN to the second tier league even as he informed him about plans to produce the soft copy of the book which Nigerians can have assess to through the internet.
“The idea is to have the book updated on daily basis so that Nigerians within few minutes will be kept abreast of what is happening in the country’s sports ecosystem”, he concluded.
