NNL: How we stopped 3SC -Ewulu, Nnewi Utd coach

By George Aluo
New Nnewi United gaffer, Fancy Ewulu has given some insight into how his team stopped all conquering NNL giants, 3SC Saturday at the Rojenny stadium, Oba in what interestingly was Ewulu’s first assignment with the club.
Ewulu, it would be noted, was unveiled early last week after signing the dotted lines to bail out the club that was not finding things easy, since the start of the season.
For Ewulu who was last season with Rangers as goalkeepers trainer, facing a 3SC side that was unbeaten in eight games, in his very first game, was an uphill task.
The coach in an exclusive chat with newstap.com.ng said he had after few days of training mapped out a strategy which was ostensibly weaved around not allowing 3SC play their game.
“I told the boys that to beat 3SC we needed to ensure they don’t play their game and to achieve this I told them to mark out their opponents. I worked on their stamina to ensure every player was 100 percent fit and I psyched them up to play and win for me since it was my debut as coach of the club. The moment we scored, I kept telling them to concentrate fully as that was the only way not to concede. If we had removed our legs from the turtle for a minute 3SC would have leveled up. I want to give God all the glory for this great start. There is a whole lot of work to do to bring the club to where the financiers want it to be,” Ewulu said.
The former First Bank of Lagos keeper stressed that the Nnewi United job is a big challenge which he would want to use to prove his mettle as a coach insisting that the era when he was merely seen as a goalkeepers trainer is gone.
“I m a qualified tactician who can handle any team not just as a goalkeeper trainer. This is an opportunity for me to prove my mettle… I hope to give it my best shot,” Ewulu said, even as he thanked the management of the club for the confidence reposed in him.
