It’s disappointing to see Eagles play in empty stadium -Emeruwa

Nigerian top official of Confederation of African Football (CAF) Dr Chris  Emeruwa has declared that it is disappointing to see the Super Eagles play in a near empty stadium as they did against Guinea Bissau in a game the Eagles lost 0-1 last week.

Emeruwa who is the Head of CAF’s Safety department in Cairo said the government would need to invest more on the Eagles since the team is the pride of the nation.

The Abia state born football buff who spoke on Sportsville, a Channels TV independent sports show said with an empty stadium, the visiting team feels good and more comfortable to grind out result.

“Government has a role to play in getting fans to back the team. It would not have been out of place to get buses ferry fans from the hinterland of Abuja to the stadium on match day and we also need to get logistics right,” Emeruwa said.

Emeruwa who contested to be NFF president last year in Benin said for Nigerian football to bounce back, the NFF secretariat need to be re invigorated, even as he added that he gave his blueprint to the incumbent NFF boss.

“When I came to contest for the presidency of NFF, it was not because I am looking for a job. I have one in Cairo, so for me, the NFF presidency was not a do or die affair. I contested, lost and thanked everybody for their time. I gave my program to the winner and I know it would help the federation, however funding is fundamental in all of that,” Emeruwa stated.
