Hosts Abia Valiants were the toast of the home fans on Sunday as they powered past Pyramids 28–20 in a thrilling female Group B encounter on Day 2 of the ongoing National Division One Handball League at the Indoor Sports Hall, Township Stadium, Umuahia, Abia State.
The home side led 12–11 at halftime before pulling away in the second half to seal an emphatic victory.
In another Group B clash, Funad Academy overcame Edo Dynamos 23–18 after edging a tight first half 8–7 while Kwara outclassed Airforce Babes 33–20 in female Group A, turning a halftime deadlock of 11–11 into a commanding win.
Mindscope Academy also lost narrowly 20–19 to Girl Child Academy in Group A, despite a 8–7 halftime win
The male category produced equally gripping contests. Mindscope Academy started the day with a hard-fought draw 20–20 against Cannan Tigers while Edo Dynamos defeated Kutus Academy 28–23.
Suleja Shooters proved too strong for Kwara, winning 24–16 in Group A with a solid 13–8 first-half advantage.
The day’s final fixture saw another home favourite U & H Abia claim a 31–24 win over Airforce in Group B, sealing the game after a closely fought first half that ended 13–12.
