ABU title fight: Fans stake millions for Appah, Osundairo

African Boxing Union Light Heavyweight title fight between two Nigerians, Godday Appah, title holder and the challenger, Abimbola Osundairo, an American based Nigerian boxer has attracted huge wagering among boxing fans.
The fight has generated so much believe by fans of the two boxers that
they placed a bet of 1million Naira each that means apart from the
Purses of the two boxers (Money to be paid after fight), the winner
gets an additional 2million Naira as take away.
The bout scheduled for 18th of December 2022 is being promoted by Mr.
Wasiu Alabi of DE LADS Promotions was sanctioned by the African
Boxing Union led by Mr. Houichi Houcine. The fight is billed to start
at 5pm at the Molade Okoya Thomas indoor sports hall, Teslim Balogun
Stadium Surulere, Lagos.
The supervisor of the bout is the President of the West African Boxing
Union, Mr. Remi Aboderin who will also serve as the supervisor for the
West African Boxing Union vacant Light Welterweight title bout between
Semiu Olopade and Segun Adeyemi aka War.
Eight other fights are slated for the evening, with an international
Super Flyweight challenge bout between Ghanaian Raymond Commey and
Afolabi Shittu a.k.a Black Gold.
While reacting to newsmen, one of the fans, said boxing is among the
most thrilling sports to bet on because of its one-on-one nature,
adding that “It’s natural for someone to want to get a piece of the
action by betting on what one believes will happen in the great fights
like this, given the publicity and money they create”.
