Africa Youth Cup President Visits Sierra Leone to Assess Host Facilities Ahead of 3rd Edition

The President of the Africa Youth Cup is currently on an official visit to Sierra Leone as part of preparations for the 3rd edition of the Africa Youth Cup International Soccer Tournament, scheduled to take place in April 2026.
The visit is focused on assessing the readiness of key sporting and support facilities as Sierra Leone prepares to host youth teams from across Africa. As part of the visit, a high-level meeting was convened at the Ministry of Sports, hosted by the Honourable Minister of Sports at her office.
In attendance were the Deputy Minister of Sports, Deputy Youth Affairs Minister, Deputy Tourism Minister, and representatives of the Ministry of Education, Sierra Leone Football Association, National Sports Authority of Sierra Leone, Permanent Secretary and the Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sports.
Discussions centered on infrastructure readiness, inter-ministerial coordination, youth development opportunities, and the broader national impact of hosting the tournament. All the stakeholders present at the meeting reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to hosting the Africa Youth Cup International Soccer Tournament.
The Honourable Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta Teima and the Deputy Minister, Youth Affairs, Hon. Patrick Michaelson Gibrilla, said Sierra Leone is ready for the hosting of Africa’s flagship football academies tournament.
Speaking during the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Tourism,Hon Dr. Kadijatu Kamara expressed excitement over the tournament, confirming that the Africa Youth Cup will form part of her ministry’s official programs for Sierra Leone’s 63rd Independence Anniversary celebrations in April. She highlighted the tournament’s potential to boost sports tourism, showcase Sierra Leone’s hospitality, and engage young people during a significant national milestone.
The Africa Youth Cup President, Mr. Godson Abba Ekadi commended the Government of Sierra Leone for its strong institutional support and collaborative approach, noting that such commitment is essential to delivering a successful international youth sporting event. He emphasized that the Africa Youth Cup goes beyond football, serving as a platform for youth empowerment, cultural exchange, tourism promotion, and international visibility for host nations.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from all stakeholders to work closely with the Africa Youth Cup organizers to ensure that Sierra Leone delivers a memorable and impactful tournament that reflects national pride, youth potential, and international standards.
The Africa Youth Cup 3rd edition is expected to attractreputable football academies, officials, football scouts, agents and visitors from across the continent, reinforcing Sierra Leone’s growing reputation as a destination for international sports and youth development initiatives.
