Togo pro- wrestling training: PWAP seeks financial support for ‘Team Nigeria’
Pro Wrestling Afrik Promotions (PWAP) a registered pro- wrestling promoting outfit that serves as the link of African Professional Wrestling to the world is seeking financial support to take four Nigerian wrestlers, an official and a journalist to Lome, Togo to enable the country be well represented at the timely Professional Wrestling training for West African athletes in which Nigeria is a major stakeholder.
The Executive Director of Pro Wrestling Afrik Promotions (PWAP), Olusesan Olukoya who will be leading the Nigerian team to Lome, Togo where the training would be held at the Kegue Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium in Lome, Togo from March 1st to 3rd, 2024 is very optimistic that the training would be a good step in the right direction for the growth and development of African professional wrestling.
According to him, the training is aimed at equipping athletes from the West Coast of Africa with the most modern techniques of the mats man game as well as make the game have a foothold in West African sub-region.
” It’s equally of paramount importance to state that the training programme will also be used to formally introduce practical professional wrestling in Togo; though professional wrestling has been inaugurated in that country and Togo Catch association has been officially formed but this training will go a long way in keeping the fighters abreast with the most modern techniques and rules of the game”, Olukoya said.
He further explained that other West African countries that are yet to have professional wrestling who would be attending will learn a lot and their associations and Federations formed in their different nations after the training; saying that kudos must go to Jim McDowell, a great wrestler, Dentist and President of Golden Wrestling Federacy for initiating the training programme.
”The training is the first of it’s kind in West Africa and the good thing is that it will be handled by world renowned wrestlers who will be coming all the way from the United States to impact their knowledge to the West African athletes.
Liberia, Benin Republic, Ghana, Gambia, Zimbabwe and Togo, the host nation have indicated interest in participating in the training and Nigeria as a stakeholder would be at the training.
Olukoya said his body is seeking financial support to enable them travel to Lome, Togo to participate in the training, stating that the needed funds would take care of the transportation, feeding and lodging of the team members even as he announced that the team would be traveling by road to Lome on Thursday, 29th February, 2024.
