Ajegunle Youths General Assembly Ends In Lagos

Youths of Ajegunle in Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State have tasked their representatives in both the State House of Assembly and Federal House of Representatives to ensure they pass laws that will be beneficial to the youths of the country.
They gave the charge, Saturday, December, 13, 2025 at the Ajegunle Youths General Assembly, held at the Council’s headquarters.

The General Assembly which was organized by the Ajeromi/ Ifelodun branch of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, attracted
many youths, who had the opportunity to interact with their representatives and also enable them seek clarifications on some pressing issues affecting them.

In his opening remark, the coordinator of the body in the Local Government and host of the meeting, Amb.Isaac Success Omoyele, said the meeting is in continuation of previous one they held and that the purpose was to enable the youths get first hand information about their constituencies from their representatives.

” This meeting became important because we want the youths as leaders of tomorrow to have the opportunity to interact with their representatives and ask them questions about some issues affecting them.

” We at the National Youth Council believe that robust interactions like this, will bring our representatives closer to the people and also keep them informed about government policies”, he said.

Some of the youths asked question ranging from high house rent, inadequate teachers in public schools, poor roads maintenance, unemployment amongst the youths, functional constituency offices, scholarships and empowerment programmes amongst others.

In answer to some of their questions, the member representing
Ajeromi /Ifelodun Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sabur Akanbi Oluwa reminded the youths that lawmakers make laws while the implementation is carried out by the Executive.
He was also of the view that when budgets are passed, it’s done in anticipation of revenue to be generated by the government in that fiscal year and then it’s left for the Executive to appropriate available funds based on areas of priority.

On the issue of high rent in Lagos, the Honourable member while regretting the astronomical increase, heaped the blame on the number of people looking for accommodation but was quick to add that the state government is taking a critical look at the issue.

Hon.Oluwa used the occasion to intimate the youths with some of the empowerment programmes including scholarship awards he has given out to the members of his constituency even as he announced that he has a functional constituency office which the youths and members of his constituency can easily access.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Community Development Committee, Alhaji Ismaila Sanni described the interaction as very apt, positing that it will help in closing communication gap between the people and their representatives.

He also announced that his committee is continually engaging the government and the House of Assembly members both at the National and state levels with the aim of attracting government attention.

“I must have to commend the leadership of National Youth Council for this wonderful initiative and the Honourable member for being here with us in person not minding his busy schedule.
” This interaction is very important because it enables the youths to ask questions on things that are bordering them and answers provided will help reduce misconceptions and communication gap between the leaders and the general public.
” On our part at the Community Development Committee, we have been engaging the Local Government, House of Representatives and House of Assembly members on issues that affects our Local Government and we believe they will listen to us”, he stressed.

At the end of the fruitful interaction, the youths in one voice called on the representatives not to alienate themselves from the people whose mandate they’re using and to make sure they pass laws that will be to the benefits of Nigerian youths.
