FASU Games : My jump not my personal best – Gold medalist

High Jump Gold medalist at the ongoing 11th All Africa Games,
Joseph Dezadin, said the jump that gave him the gold medal was not his personal best.

Dezadin, a student of the University of Mauritius who beat off stiff opposition from Ghanaian athletes stated this shortly after the medal presentation at the University of Lagos Sports Centre.

“I’m highly excited to have won the gold medal because the jump that gave me victory is not my personal best, but I thank God that it was enough to win the gold medal.

“I represented Mauritius in the last African Games, but I did not win any medal, so I know what the feeling is over there and the pressure. I just try to improve and become stronger.

“High Jump needs a lot of practice, dedication and commitment, which I will give to it,” he said.

The silver medalist, Philip Boaleng from the University of Ghana in his remarks noted that Ghana dominated the podium in athletics because they’re passionate about the sport even as he stated that they don’t joke with their training, coupled with the fact that they have good coaches.

“It’s a thing of joy winning silver but I would have loved it more winning the gold medal. What this means is that I have to train harder. High jump is a bit difficult from what people think it is and you must be at your best at all time”, he said.
