Anambra FA Chairman, Iloenyosi Pours Encomiums On State’s Supporters Club

..As 'Sip & Reason' campaign ends In Awka

Chairman of Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi, has praised the leadership of the state”s chapter of Nigeria Football Supporters Club for their efforts at encouraging football development in the state; saying that he’ll support them in their plans of ensuring that the state regains it’s position as the home of football in the country.

He stated this at the just concluded ‘Sip & Reason’ campaign organized by the chapter, on December, 19, 2025, aimed at reminding governments at all levels, corporate sponsors, sports philanthropists, and all lovers of football in the state, the importance of building a modern grassroots football infrastructures and support systems for early discovery of football talents, proper grooming, motivations, and guiding of such talents through all stages of development till international stardom.
According to the former Super Eagles defender popularly known as ‘General’, during his playing days, the state’s FA is highly impressed with what they’re doing which is line with the state governors plan of using sports to check crime in the society
” I’m highly impressed with your decision to organize this programme which talks about grassroots football development and to create avenue for talented youths to embrace sports and be out of crime which the state government has been championing and we’ll continue to support you”, he stated
In his remarks, the Legal adviser of the club, Barrister Jerry Emebie, described it as timely intervention because sports especially football is a very big aspect of global society.

” The programme is timely because football is ageless and employs a good number of the population and what we’ve done today is to sensitize and make an advocacy to the grassroots on the need to restore the joy of football to the communities and am happy for that.
” You should also realize that the rate of crime in the country is quite alarming and engaging these young ones will help to drasticay reduce crime in the society”, noted the Legal luminary.

Host of the Event and CEO Royal Swiss Palace Ambassador Chibuzor Ekwenye, described the campaign as a wonderful day in the history of Anambra State, noting that with the campaign, a revolution has started in grassroots football development in the state

” I remember with nostalgia that when we were growing up, we knew much about football, we played the game very well and there was competitions everywhere. But regrettably, even secondary schools football is a mirage, but am happy that today we are rekindling it.

“The man at the helm of affairs,Bunubunu, is a workaholic and we know that with him in the saddle, we will go places.

“He will compliment the efforts of the Chairman of the FA, the General Iloenyosi to make grassroots football in the state take a new leaf.
” You know that in the past, you cannot talk about the Super Eagles without talking about Anambra State because we have the talents and that’s what we want to re- enact and reduce crime amongst the youths”, he sounded confidently

Earlier in his speech at the well attended event, Chairman of the chapter, Izuchukwu Udegbunam, explained that the campaign became necessary in order to remind Nigerians that there’s need for them to join hands with Nigeria Football Supporters Club in their plan for the country to win the FIFA World Cup in the nearest future through reviving grassroots football programs in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, traders football championships, communal football championships and even street football competitions etc.
Udegbunam who also doubles as Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of Bunubunu Culture and Sporting Company Limited, appealed to corporate organisations and stakeholders in the state to join hands with the club in it’s quest of making the state regain it’s leadership position of the round leather game in the country.

In a goodwill message he sent to the event National Chairman of Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Amb. Rev. Samuel Ikpea, expressed happiness with the initiative, urging the organisers not to be distracted in moving the club and football forward in the state.
The event held at Royal Swiss Palace, Nodu-Okpuno, Awka was a carnival like event and it attracted some important personalities such as; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Anambra State on Media, Chief Chidiebele C. Obika
President Anambra State Association of Town Union (ASATU), Barrister Titus Akpudo (Ichaka).Former President General Nteje Aborgu kingdom and Chief Executive officer of I-witness Media Group.
