Supreme Shotokan international karate children fun fair ends in Lagos

The 10th edition of the annual karate children fun fair organised by Supreme Shotokan international karate academy has ended in Lagos with more than 200 students drawn from various schools and karate clubs participating.
The event put together as part of activities marking children’s Day celebration was held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos where the children displayed their skills in various aspects of the game of karate to the admiration of fans and their parents.
Technical Director/ Chief Instructor of the academy, Shiham Ayodeji Idowu told newstap.com.ng that the karate funfair was part of his efforts at developing the game at the grassroots noting that he’s satisfied with the level of attendance and enthusiasm expressed by the children.
He explained that the event which is usually organised during the Children’s Day in May, 27 and Independence Day in October 1, taught the children competition experience, endurance, fitness flexibility, and combination of strength in training just as he stated that they also received lectures on behavioural attitude both at home and school.
Shiham Idowu spoke on the need for parents to encourage their children and wards to take part in karate as it builds confidence in them and make them master the art of self defense.
He also made a passionate appeal to government and corporate organisations to support the development of other sports aside football as it will help in youth development in the country.
At the end of the one day event, medals and certificates were presented to the children.
