Basketball crisis: Nzeagwu sues for peace

Lagos based veteran sports journalist , Mike Nzeagwu has urged all the feuding parties in the nation’s basketball family to bury the hatchet in the interest of the game.

Nzeagwu who is now into Sports Marketing where he has made his mark in a statement made available to newstap.com.ng pleaded with the stakeholders to come together and resolve their differences as that is the only way the dunking game can grow in the country.

He pointed out that the crisis in basketball would deny several talented Nigerian kids who ordinarily would have played the game at the highest level from doing so.

He stressed that it is not every Nigerian kid that would play football, even as he added that those who want to play basketball should be allowed to do so under a very conducive atmosphere.

In his words…”Those fighting should chart a path for peace, unity and progress of basketball in Nigeria.  You recall the glorious days of local basketball in the 90s when 7Up used to sponsor the league. People filled the indoor sports hall of Natiobal Stadium to watch the Finals between the Savannah and Atlantic Conferences.  They should work towards restoring those glorious days. Our children who want to play professionally basketball and possibly get scholarships abroad to study and play are being denied the opportunity by the imbroglio. Every person cannot play football. Let budding basketball players be given the opportunity to excel. Enough is enough.”
