Blackout! Again, National Grid Suffers Collapse In 2026

Nigerians may be in for another period of total darkness as the National Grid witnessed a total collapse on Friday afternoon.

The grid with is the aggregate source of power generation and distribution across the the 11 Distribution Companies (DISCOS) confirmed the latest status of power supply in the country through it’s ‘x’ handle former known as Twitter.

As at 5:15 p.m on Friday, the grid confirmed that a total of 80 Megawatts has so far been recovered since it’s 0 MW recorded as at the time of the total collapse.

It had rose to 4,170MW around 9 a.m on the same day before going down few hours later.

It would be recalled that late in December 2025, the country witnessed it’s many downtime but it appears the trend might continue in 2026.

In a tweet earlier, the handler advised Nigerians to look beyond the Federal Government for a permanent solution as the recent law guiding power generation and supply has handed the initiative to State Governments and interested individuals or groups.

With the current situation, it appears Nigerians including business will continue to suffer poor power supply as poor infrastructure, debt over gas supply and low output by the Discos clogs the progress in the power sector.
