Breaking: Dessers, Alebiosu Injured As Super Eagles Hit Round of 16 With Perfect 9 Points


 

Debutant Ryan Alebiosu and striker Cyriel Dessers have sustained varying degrees of injuries as the Super Eagles concluded the Group stage of the ongoing with maximum points after they defeated Uganda 3-1 at the Fes stadium, Morocco on Tuesday.

 

Forward Paul Onuachu put the 3-time champions ahead in the 28th minute with midfielder Raphael Onyedika increasing the tally in the 62nd.

He got the 2023 finalists’ third goal five minutes later before Rogers Mato gave the Cranes their consolatory goal in the 75th minute.

 

The victory means Nigeria finished as winners of group and qualify for the Round of 16.

 

Media Officer Promise Efoghe confirmed the injury status of the team after their third victory at the 35th edition of the AFCON.

 

“Debutant Ryan Alebiosu sustained a deep cut on his right leg. Uncertainty surrounds his availability for the rest of the tournament,” he stated in a message.

 

He further revealed that forward Dessers had suffered a thigh injury and would be subjected to a scan on Wednesday to determine the level of injury he sustained in training.

 

“Cyriel Dessers has a thigh problem. He is scheduled for a scan tomorrow.”

 

As Group C winners, the Super Eagles could face Cote d’Ivoire’s Elephants (Cup holders), Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions or the Mambas of Mozambique in the next round on January 5 2026.
