BSP Rangers Scrabble Tourney Makes A Second Landing In Ajegunle On July 26

Winners of 2024 BSP Scrabble Tournament
Scrabble will make a return to Ajegunle, Nigeria’s hub of talents in Lagos as the 2nd BSP Scrabble Tournament hit the famed ‘city’ on July 26 this year.
AJ City known for it’s enterprising youth population, had it first feel of organized scrabble at the Abayomi Awodiora Hall where over 80 players converged for the historic event.
The lure of the positives generated from the maiden outing where residents and visitors had their first feel of the mind game, motivated the organisers to birthed the second edition.
Interestingly, members of the BSP Rangers Club led by it’s President Collins Okafor believed one of the gains of bringing scrabble closer to the community they grew up in was it’s attributes of engaging the youth and taking them out of vices.
‘Scrabble is a very unique sport which we know, helps in cognitive development as well as it’s educational values’ he said.
‘Scrabble has been proven to be a tool which has helped in taking many people off vices. We are encouraged by the turnout we had at the last edition last year as many people got in contact with the game at an organised level.’ He continued, ‘We saw how some individuals came around to witness how it’s been played and how organized the ambience was.
So we are encouraged by the new converts and that’s why we are building on all these to attract many more potentials to the game in Ajegunle the base of the grassroots.’
Participants will compete in three categories.
Players with ratings from 1400 and above will compete in Clas A, those with ratings from 1200-1399 will meet in Class B while those with 11
99 and below will play in Class C.
Cash as well as other spot prizes will be on the table as the organisers have promised to keep the momentum of expanding the game across frontiers while deepening it penetration.
It would be recalled that Ogun State’s Samuel Adebola won the maiden edition.
