Ethan Nwaneri celebrates after scoring against Brighton and Hove in the Carabao Cup at the Emirates
Ethan Nwaneri strike in the 57th minute and Bukayo Saka’s goal 19 minutes later earned Arsenal a 2-0 win against Brighton and Hove to confirm their passage to the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night.
The Gunners playing before their home fans at the Emirates Stadium, struggled to find their range in the first half while their rivals created some chances of their own.
But it was the 18 year-old who broke the deadlock in the 57th minute after finishing off a well-worked team effort to put a smile on Manager Mikel Arteta’s face.
While the game wore on, both sides seek to improve on their fortunes.
However, it was second-half substitute Saka double their lead after he profited from a rebound from a shot by Harriman-Annous shot which initially saved by Jason Steele.
With the win, the Gunners have now qualified for the quarter-final of the tournament scheduled for December 16 when they will meet London rivals Crystal Palace who dispatched struggling Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on the same night.
Other quarter-final fixtures will see Newcastle United hosting Fulham who parade Super Eagles’ trio of Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze and Calvin Bassey.
Manchester City will face Brentford at the Etihad Stadium while Chelsea will travel to Cardiff City.
