Coach Finidi George believed Rivers United deserve at least a draw in their encounter against Black Bull after his team fell by the odd in the 1st-leg, second preliminary round of CAF Champions League in Mozambique on Saturday.
Moctar Diallo’s strike in the 50th minute made the difference as the Mozambicans enjoyed a slim victory at the Lalgy Arena 1, Matola at the end of proceedings ahead of the reversed fixture in Nigeria.
George during his post-match press conference contended that his team created two decent chances in the 1st-half but were unable to maximise the opportunities.
‘It was a good game. We could have gotten a draw but this is football. In the 1st-half, we had two opportunities at scoring but we didn’t convert them. Apart from the only clear chance in the 2nd-half which Black Bull created and got their only goal, I think we tried to get something out of this game but we didn’t. This is football.’
He commended his rivals for their performance but expressed his team’s desire to take full advantage at their adopted home in the return -leg next weekend.
Both sides will clash for a qualification ticket to the Group Stage on Sunday, October 26 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
