The Cycling Federation of Nigeria, CFN has called for entries from all the State’s Cycling Associations as well as registered Cycling Clubs across the country for the 2026 National Para-Cycling/National Track Championships as well as National Para Games.
The three-in-one championships, according to the secretary general of the CFN, Joel Akinluwa, are scheduled to take place from March 25 to April 5, 2026 at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Akinluwa added that the Velodrome would be open to cyclists for training and trials from March 1.
He listed five C classes events to be competed for in the para-cycling category which he said are for athletes who ride standard two-wheeled bicycles but have physical impairments that affect strength, coordination or limb function.
“The Para-cycling events shall be conducted in accordance with recognised classification standards and will include the following categories:
C1- most severe-major limitations in balance power or control, C2-severe – significant asymmetry or limb loss affecting eficiency, C3- moderate – clear impairment but better overall control, C4- mild moderate – noticeable impairment, relatively strong performance and C5 – least severe – minimal functional limitation compared to able-bodied riders”.
The B class (Tandem) events, he said, are for visually impaired athletes competing with a sighted pilot.
“These events form a key part of the Federation’s national calendar and are aimed at talent identification, performance evaluation and the continued development of cycling and para-cycling in Nigeria,” Akinluwa said.
While stressing that participation is open to eligible and duly classified athletes registered under their respective State Cycling Associations or Clubs, the CFN secretary general reminded the States and clubs that they shall “be fully responsible for the welfare, accommodation, feeding, transportation and general management of their teams throughout the duration of the Open National Trials, the National Champuionships and the Para Games”.
