Chief Of Defence Staff Honours Musa Kida On His Contributions To Growth Of Nigeria Basketball

It was a meeting of two renowned men of integrity, patriotism and resourcefulness, as the NNPCL Board Chairman, Engr. (Dr). Ahmadu Musa Kida was at the Defence House, Wednesday, to pay an unofficial visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Chris Gwabin Musa.

Engr. Kida who is also the President of Nigeria Basketball Federation, thanked the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), for the personal and selfless support he has been rendering to the game of basketball.

 Responding with a warm embrace and handshake, the CDS  presented a commemorative plaque to Kida, in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of the game of basketball in Nigeria.

Olopade Suspends NBF Elections, Insists On Due Process

Stakeholders in Nigerian sports have praised the Director General of the National Sports Commission Hon. Bukola Olopade, for his swift response in addressing the perceived anomalies leading to the now postponed Nigeria Boxing Federation Elections.

In the wake of the announcement of a sudden change in the election schedule. Several boxing stakeholders expressed disbelief after the infamous timetable was released for the polls with less than 48-hour window for aspirants to complete their nomination forms and screening processes.

The aggrieved members reached out to the NSC leadership, citing perceived ploy to shut out prospective candidates from participating in the election with such extremely short notice.

In a proactive move to ensure transparency, fairness, accountability, and inclusivity in the electoral process. Olopade called for an emergency meeting on Thursday, August 14th, with key members of the electoral committee, the Secretary General of the NBF Olalekan Faseesin, and members of the recently dissolved board.

The DG, in his remarks, said the election must be conducted in line with the NSC’s electoral guidelines, which create the necessary window for candidates to be notified and prepare for the poll. Olopade further instructed that the NBF election be moved to a later date to ensure all stakeholders are able to participate.

This directive was adhered to by the Nigeria Boxing Federation General Secretary and members of the electoral committee, who later announced in a statement that the elections have been postponed by three (3) weeks.
The communiqué also urged all stakeholders to remain on high alert for a new date, which will be communicated in the coming days.
