Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers and Nigeria Customs Service have emerged champions of the 2025 Super Cup in the men and women’s categories held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Saturday, February 8.
CNS Spikers beat Nigeria Customs Service 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-17) in the men’s final, while Nigeria Customs Service pummeled COAS Spikers 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-10) in the women’s category.
In the men’s category, Nigeria Correctional Service beat efence Spikers 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23) to finish third place, while Life Camp and Ajase Ipo settled for fifth and sixth place.
In the women’s category, CNS Spikers beat Vipers Spikers in a five set thriller (24-26, 25-21, 25-16, 17-25, 15-13) to secure a bronze medal, while Fire Service and Excelsior placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod expressed optimism about the future of Nigerian volleyball, describing it as a major platform for talent discovery and national team development.
“The competition brought to light several new and unexpected talents, describing the development as a positive challenge for the federation and national team selectors.
“The preparations for the 2026 season would be intensive, with several major continental competitions lined up, including the zonal elimination for the African Nations Cup in Ouagadougou.
“Others are the African Club Championship (Zone 3) in Ghana, and the participation of Nigerian clubs in the African Club Championship in Kigali in April,” he said.
He added that separate men’s and women’s continental championships would also take place, with the women’s event scheduled to hold in Egypt.
“These competitions are not going to be easy, but Nigeria will be ready,” Nimrod said.
