Coach Lawrence Akpokona bedridden, needs urgent medical assistance
Former international, ex-Bendel Insurance player, and veteran coach, Coach Lawrence Akpokona, is currently bedridden at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), and needs urgent medical assistance.
According to Former Nigeria international and chairman, Advocacy for Nigeria Football Reform Concepts, Harrison Jalla, the veteran coach has been hospitalized since October 13, 2025, due to a spinal cord injury and needs financial assistance to enable him continue his medication and treatment.
“I want to bring it to the notice of Nigerians that Coach Akpokona is lying critically ill at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and needs financial assistance for his treatment.
” He has undergone three major surgeries since October last year and still need further surgeries to correct his spinal cord. His family have spent so much on his hospital bill and and can no longer afford the cost of the treatment which necessitated this appeal
“This is a clarion call to the Edo State Government, Delta State Government, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the National Sports Commission to come to Coach Akpokona’s rescue”, said Jalla.
