King of the Rings 3: Tasif Khan captures WBC Silver Title as Adijat Gbadamosi makes history with ABU Title
Monarch Events and Promotions took the third installment of their ‘King of the Ring’ series to the home of Boxing in Ghana, the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra and the arena was lit up with the huge card of international boxing headlined by the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Super Flyweight Championship.
The main event of the evening saw Bradford, England based Pakistani, tasif Khan (17-1-2, 9KOs) who is the reigning WBO Africa Super Flyweight champion winning the prestigious WBC Silver Super Flyweight title.
The veteran Khan knocked out David Barreto (17-3-0, 16KOs) of Venezuela in the second round of their scheduled twelve rounds bout.
Barreto was dropped in the first round and was down twice in the second round before the Belgian referee, Brahim Ait Aadi waved it off.
WBC vice President and President of the Africa Boxing Union (ABU), Houcine Houichi was there to crown the new champion.
In the Co-main event of the evening, Nigeria’s Adijat ‘Dija’ Gbadamosi made history becoming the the first Nigerian woman to win an African boxing title.
Gbadamosi, a 2018 youth Olympic Silver medalist won a TKO victory over Zimbawean Soldier girl, Patience Mastara in the fifth round of their scheduled ten rounds to win the Africa Super Bantamweight female title.
Other winners on the night were,
Nigeria’s Victor Beneth who achieved a unanimous decision win against Ghana’s Moses Kwaku in the Light Heavyweight category.
Kwaku, a late replacement for Anele Bafana of Zimbabwe who could not make it due flight issues went to ‘war’ with Beneth in a typical Nigeria versus Ghana affair.
The fight was adjudged the best bout of the night.
Manchestet based Ezra ‘Nigerian King’ Arenyeka won a first round TKO against Philibert Sodjinou of Benin Republic in the Super Middleweight division. The bout was scheduled for 8 rounds. Ezra is the Nigeria Super Middleweight champion takes his unbeaten record to 11-0, 9KOs.
In a Super Lightweight contest, Temirzhan Baimolda of Kazakhstan defeated Komlangan Hounkpatin of Togo via unanimous decision after eight rounds to go (5-0, 3KOs)
Ghana’s Prince Oko Nartey (11-1, 10KOs) technically knocked out fellow Ghanaian, Felix Mankatah who failed to come out for the fourth round retiring at the end of the third of scheduled eight rounds.
In the other undercard bouts involving Ghanaians, Isaac Commey won via TKO against Kofi Ansah Raymond in a Super Welterweight contest.
Fosu Thompson got KO win against Samuel Lartei Lartey in the Welterweight division while in another Super Lightweight bout, Faisal Abubakari won by TKO against Enoch Lamptey to stretch his unbeaten record to 14-0, 12 KOs.
Super Star Ghanaian artiste, Stone Bwoy gave an electrifying performance that had the fans asking for more.
Nigerian acts, Jumabee, B-Tone and C-Prince all made their presence felt on the night of King of the Ring 3.
The previous two editions of the series were held in Lagos, Nigeria and the next is billed for South Africa.
