The two-day training camp to prepare participants for the Daniel Ford Elite Youth Table Tennis Invitational Championships commended in Lagos on Wednesday at the National Training Centre of the National Stadium, Surulere.
The intensive coaching clinic handled by national coaches led by Dotun Omoniyi saw players who were drawn from different states across the country being tutored on the basic techniques during the sessions for Under 12, 15 and 19.
The clinic which is one of the key initiatives of the tournament sponsors, is designed to empower players with essential techniques ahead of the main competition, which kicks off on Friday, December 19, at the Sir Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
While acknowledging the importance of keeping ether players are in top shape for the main event and bring out their best during the Championships.
Omoniyi lauded the initiative, noting that that the exercise will get players ready and make the third edition of the invitational tournament more competitive.
The coaching clinic which featured morning and afternoon sessions will end on Thursday. 80 players, comprising 40 boys 40 32 girls will compete for honors in the newly introduced Under 12 and Under 15 as well as 19 categories when hostilities resume on Friday.
The elite youth championships is bankrolled by the United Kingdom based Daniel Ford International, and supported by other sponsors.
