EEAST Legacy Award Winner Set To Be Unveiled

...As Gala Night Ends Memorable 'Quinta Essentia' Edition

The Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament (EEAST) will come to an exciting close on Sunday with a new Legacy Award winner expected to be announced at the Gala Night slated for the final day at the Eko Hotel.

Scrabble development has been largely propelled by individuals who have been selfless in committing resources to it’s growth and expansion through their innovative strategies.

Interestingly, the winner of the Legacy Award has always remained unknown until the identity is revealed during the Gala Night thereby adding excitement to the whole process.

The EEAST Chief Convener Emmanuel Egbele while explaining the rationale behind the Legacy Award to the media said that it’s important that those who keep supporting the game quietly even without expecting anything in return financially, should be recognised and celebrated for their efforts and support in lifting the game to a greater height.

“You know, scrabble is a game we all love to play but, we have personalities among us who at times are not directly involved in playing or by attending tournaments but would accept to give their money to lift the game in different areas.”

“Let me add here that the process from nomination to voting is totally not in our hands as the organisers. What we do is to reach out to the scrabble community for nominations and then they vote for their preferred individuals. What we have done is to make the process liberal, open and inclusive.” He emphasised.

“The preferred nominee with the highest number of votes remains unknown but his or her identity is revealed at the Gala/Award Night. The Legacy Award is our own way of saying ‘Thank You’ to these individuals and encourage them to do more.”

Adekoyejo Adegbesan earned the inaugural award at the ‘Trilogy’ edition in 2023 while Dr. Musa Olasupo was voted as the recipient of the 2024 edition.

Other deserving individuals and winners at the 5th edition of the tournament will also be rewarded at Gala Night.
