Awka, new Mecca of Nigerian football set to host three Federation Cup battles as Iloenyosi beckons on fans

The capital city of Anambra state will again come alive as 6 top flight teams will be in the new stadium to battle for a place in the next round of the 2023 Nigeria Federation Cup. Two male games, involving NPFL table toppers from respective groups in the abridged league, will come up on Wednesday the 24th of May while the female game will come up on the 18th of May.

Heartland FC of Owerri will take on Bendel Insurance as Lobi Stars will face Bendel Insurance feeders all for a place in the quarterfinals of the Federation Cup. On the female side, FC Robo of Lagos will square up against Nasarawa Amazons in a mouth watering encounter for a ticket in the semifinals of the FA cup.

The Awka City stadium has been the cynosure of all eyes since Gen. Chikelue Iloenyosi took over as FA Chairman of the state and the capital city is fast becoming a major hub for football in the south east. Currently NLO games are going for the last two weeks and in between Edel FC and Enugu Rangers both have made the city stadium their league home ground.

Iloenyosi who is excited about the development urged Anambra state football stakeholders to come out in their numbers to see these games. He promised to do all within his capacity to see football moving accordingly in the state. Awka City stadium is the only stadium in the whole nation that will host 3 games in this stage of the competition.

In a related development, the capacity Chairman of Anambra State Football Association Gen. Chikelue Iloenyosi has placed Mr Chukwudi Alamefuna popularly known as “Mojolistic” on monthly salary. Iloenyosi praised Mojo for his dedication to football in the state. General pointed out the fact that since he took over as FA Chairman, that Mr Mojo has not missed any match at all.

“It surprises me how he gets information about games at the stadium. I am not sure if he has missed any game at all. AIFL, Rangers and Edel home games. Even the FA cup games, the ongoing BrainBox and NLO league games he has been every present. So it only makes sense that I reward his passion with a monthly stipend that will always go to his mum. This way I believe he will feel part of this administration”

It was an emotional moment when the mother of Mr Mojolistic, Mrs Uremma Alamefuna with joy thanked and prayed for the FA Chairman for thinking towards his son. She narrated the upbringing of Mojolistic and how the wife of his son left them and since then, the responsibility of taking care of the son has been on her. She explained how this can help her carter for her son going forward.
