Eguavoen, Eagles & Morocco

Caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen returns to the saddle once again, for the fourth time to fly the Eagles’ wings, albeit desperately, past Benin Republican this weekend in the 2025 Morocco African Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.
Eagles, badly in stitches, and smarting from a barrage of terrible results and a hash of coaching crisis, will attempt to knock their wings together by starting the qualifiers on the good note by beating their latest nightmare Benin Republic.
Eguavoen, “rescuing” the NFF again, got the licence to set the tone for a new turnaround Eagles badly needed with the nightmarish little neighbours crossing the border and looking good to threaten again.
Benin, still basking in their Eagles’ killer acts in the neutral ground of Abidjan the last time out, have not forgotten their away home heroics are talking tough and threatening to make life difficult for Eguavoen.
The man in their dugout Gernot Rohr was formerly screaming instructions from the Eagles’ dugouts and whom Eguavoen was sacrificed for. Rohr isn’t done with proving some points and could make Eguavoen look ordinary in his fourth spell.
“Egu” got to roll up his sleeves and get down to work, two major tasks to get done – first, to beat Benin and force Eagles’ supremacy over their tiny neighbours, who had gone to town with loud noises of late, back on track. Shutting tough talking Rohr is also part of the first major huge task and restoring confidence and winning ways extending the victory in Kigali against Rwanda, four days later.
Morocco’s just around the corner and Eagles have just got to be there again because they got unfinished business to do there and these two crucial games will determine if the North African country will be in Eagles’ radar.
That’s the main crux of the matter trailing the double 2025 AFCON double header and anything short of victories, will not be good music to the ears of unimpressed fans.
Still stop gapping for the future appointed coach as the NFF shops for one, the hopes of millions of fans lie on the shoulders of “Egu” and the former Insurance coach will only have to come away with positive results.
Until the new coach makes his way to the dug out, “Egu” remains in charge and these double headers will have to be won to get the Eagles flying again, and flying admirably well.
