EIPFA Pays Emotional Tribute to Late Football Icon, Coach Onigbinde
Ex-Ibadan Professional Footballers Association (EIPFA) has joined the Nigerian football community in grieving the death of High Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, according to a statement issued and signed by the body’s chairman, Temitope Obideyi, and made accessible to journalists in Ibadan.
In the emotional tribute, the Ibadan ex-football stars described the late Modakeke High Chief as a legendary football tactician and mentor, as well as one of the most respected figures in Nigerian football history, stating that his legacy will be forever engraved in the rich history of football in Ibadan/Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
“Chief Onigbinde has dedicated decades of his life to the advancement of football in Nigeria. He created history as the first indigenous coach to lead the national team to the 2002 FIFA World Cup, having previously led Nigeria to the final of the 1984 African Cup of Nations.
EIPFA, which includes renowned ex-internationals such as Mutiu Adepoju, Dimeji Lawal, Seyi Olofinjana, Dele Adeleye, Ike Shorunmu, Edith Agoye and others, expressed its profound condolences to his family, friends, the football community, and all those who were touched by his extraordinary life and achievements.
