Gambia to host 3rd West African Scrabble Championship

The Gambia will host the third edition of the West African Scrabble Championship, (WASC) scheduled to hold in 2024, the Head of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) of the second edition of the Championship, Engineer Toke Aka has disclosed.
Aka who doubles as the President of Nigeria Scrabble Federation, (NSF) stated this during the opening ceremony of the second edition Championship (WASC) taking place at Novatel Hotel in Lagos.
He appreciated contingents from English-speaking countries in the West African sub-region participating in the championship; saying that existence of the championship is a testament to the common goal each countries share together.
“This is something we will all like to see continue as it started in Ghana last year, now the turn of Nigeria. We all agreed it will be rotating among the five recognized counties that are playing English scrabble in the West African sub-region which means the next host will be The Gambia.
“And from Gambia, we will move to Sierra Leone, Liberia and back to Ghana.
“We’ll like to see this continue because it has been happening in East and Central Africa for over 10 years and I don’t see the reason why it should not happen in our sub- region.
The NSF President advised the players to exude friendliness; saying that the championship serves as a springboard to create quality relationships among the countries.
“When you win, be happy, when you lose look inward and find out what really happened that made you loose “Please let’s play in a friendly atmosphere remembering that we are brothers, that is the reason why we have the ECOWAS.
“So what we are doing right now is building friendship in the sub- region and let’s take this game as a friendly one knowing that it’s good for all of us
