Imo Lawmaker unveils football tournament for constituents

Worried by the level of anti social activities among the youths of his area and the need to strategically engage and uplift them, Hon.Tochukwu Okere (Toska), representing Owerri Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Abuja has unveiled multi millionaire Naira football tournament among the autonomous communities within the three local government areas that constitutes the federal constituency.
Okere who’s the House Committee Chairman on Diaspora Matters and the representative of the good people of Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West Federal Constituency, disclosed this over the weekend in his constituency office along Egbu Road, Owerri while seeding the draws for the tournament scheduled to commence on Thursday 28 of March 2024 at Obibiezina Community School, Owerri North LGA of the State, as he was ably represented by Mr. Mobi Oparaku, MON.
Oparaku who’s an ex-international and an ace defender squad of the famous U-23 Atlanta USA Olympic game that humbled Brazil and lifted the golden trophy is also the Chairman of the grassroot football competition planning committee, tagged Toska 2024 Owerri Federal Constituency Football Tournament.
The iconic Football Administrator expressed gratitude over his appointment noting that all through his life, he has passion for football as a sports and have no regrets in being deeply involved.
He canvassed for fair play and spirit of sportsmanship among the participating clubs even as he assured them of all motivational incentives.
Adding his voice, Mr. James Oparaekeocha, a veteran broadcasting Sports Journalist who’s also the Secretary of the tournament organizing committee enjoined the participating autonomous communities to take the competition serious, in view of the enormous benefits.
Oparaekeocha pointed out that apart from the motivational incentives, that the essence of the tournament is to discover budding talents that could be exported to trade tackles with national and global football clubs noting that the sponsor has the commitment for such empowerment.
He applauded the sponsor who’s of Labour Party, LP for being patriotic and passionate in uplifting the well being of his constituents especially the youths.
The one time management member of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba assured the participants of fairness and transparency in organizing the tournament while soliciting for discipline, cooperation and understanding.
It’s pertinent to note that thirty(30) autonomous communities registered for the competition and was drawn into 8 groups with group A having Umudibia Nekede, Ihitte Ogada, Umuihugba Umuodu, Group B harbours Orogwe, Emekuku, Mbaoma and Umuonyeche-Umuodu, Group C fixtures Umuokpo, Ezimba and Ulakwo, while Group D is at home with Amakohia -Ubi, Ihiagwa, Eziobodo and Ngwoma – Obube.
Meanwhile, Group E accommodates Ikenegbu, Ndegwu Umunwoha, Akwakuma and Umuoma Nekede, Group F takes care of Irete, Obinze and Azarubo Emekuku, Group G takes care of Awaka, Avu, Obibiezina and Emeabiam even as Group H fixtures Ohii, Egbu,Aladinma Obibi Uratta.
