Family petition IGP over unlawful detention of son
The aggrieved family of Seyi Ogunjobi, (44 years) has called for his immediate release, he‘s unlawfully detained by the Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigeria Police, Oyo State Command.
The family made the call in a petition to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Governor of Oyo State, and the Nigeria Medical Association over the safety of his life since he was detained over same-sex sexual activity with one Sunday Joseph Ani who is at large.
Seyi Ogunjobi who is being investigated for breaching relevant provisions of the Same-sex Prohibition Act 2014 is liable to 14 years imprisonment upon conviction but he has not been charged to court since he had been detained more than a year ago.
The family in a petition signed by Chief Aderoju Ogunjobi and made available to newsmen, therefore, appeal to the IGP to use his good offices to ensure that there is no miscarriage of Justice in this matter, and that Seyi Ogunjobi is released unconditionally in exercise of their fundamental human rights.
“The Police could not arrest Sunday Joseph Ani, the alleged bisexual partner of Ogunjobi in the case, after trailing him to Ado-Ekiti and Lagos. The information we got was that he had left his family and fled out of the country, yet the Police still continue to detain our son.”
“We want to appeal to the IGP and all relevant authorities to intervene so that our son that is battling with health complications will not just continue languishing in the Police cell without prosecution,” said the petition.
