Wrestlers ready to rumble at end of year wrestling extravaganza, as organisers promise exciting Xmas show.

The much anticipated end of year wrestling extravaganza billed for Sunday, December, 24, 2023 is gradually approaching with the organisers of the championship promising fans something to be proud of this Christmas season.
Pro- Wrestling Africa in collaboration with African Wrestling Organisation and Global Wrestling Federacy, based in Florida, United States will on that day at the Wrestling Arena of the National Stadium Surulere Lagos put together the championship which will feature the vacant African Light heavyweight title fight between Nigerian Mr. Sharpman and USA Bing of DR Congo.
Speaking on arrangements for the competition, Technical Adviser of African Wrestling Organisation ( AWO), Samuel Omare Omene- Johnson popularly known as Jimmy Palm ( De African Dream) explained it will be a four bout event and that all the wrestlers are ready to give their best and make fans have something to celebrate the Christmas with.
” We’re ready to go and all the wrestlers are in high spirit ahead of the championship. I’ve already told the wrestlers to believe in themselves and to have it at the back of their mind that what the Europeans and Americans can do, they too can do it better because they have the talent and raw power”, he stressed.
According to him, plans are in the pipeline to be having regular championships on monthly or bimonthly basis as a way of reviving professional wrestling in the country noting that the collaboration between the three bodies is a sign of better things to happen in the mats man game.
He also announced that the championship will help in upgrading wrestlers so that their foreign partners can see the potentials in them and probably invite them over to continue their trade abroad.
On the fixtures for the day, Jimmy Palm, ( De African Dream) explained that apart from Mr. Sharpman who will be fighting for the vacant African Light heavyweight title against dreaded USA Bing of Congo DR while it will be an all Nigerian affair in the other bouts as Christian Ugochukwu Obi A K.A Eagle De Great, will be facing 6.5 with Akwa Ibom State born sensational fighter, Power Vic meeting Timothy M. Wise Wisdom (God’s Kid, De Wrestling Bull) while there will also be a female wrestling fight between De Blaze and Alexandra De Queen.
Also speaking, Secretary General of Pro- Wrestling Africa, Olusesan Olukoya said the aim of the tournament is to bring back the lost glory of professional wrestling which held sway in the country in the 70’s and 80’s.
The astute sports administrator and wrestling magazine publisher, posited that their collaboration with Global Wrestling Federacy will go a long way in changing the fortune of African wrestling as the United States of America based body is already planning to organise a wrestling training Programme in February 2024 in Togo.
Olukoya while reminding wrestling fans that the gate fee is free, appealed to them to troop out in their thousands to watch the entertaining fights.
Some of the wrestlers who will be in action on that day also took turn to promise their fans that there won’t be any dull moment on December 24 just as they sent strong messages to their opponents to be ready to receive punishment on the ring.
Augustine Okafor A.K.A Sharpman, a veteran of tag team fights who will be gunning for the vacant African Light heavyweight title, told his opponent from DR Congo, USA Bing that he’ll be sent back to Kinshasa on stretchers as he will never allow his Central African opponent stand between him and the continental title
“I want to sound a note of warning to USA Bing that by the time I finish with him, his Embassy here in Nigeria will carry him in stretcher and put him in the next available flight back to hospital in Kinshasa”, began the Orlu, Imo State born grabber.
“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a long time and my plan is to present the belt to Imo State Governor, Senator, Hope Uzodinma as a Christmas present as well as congratulate him for his well deserved victory at the last Governorship election and not even 20 USA Bing will stand between me and the title”, he stated.
In their separate interviews with newstap.com.ng, Messrs: Victor Idorenyem Ebenezer A.K.A Power Vic, Christian Ugochukwu Obi Alias Eagle De Great and God’s Kid all promised tough time for their opponents even as they commended the organisers for coming up with the tournament aimed at reviving professional wrestling in the country
” We’re ready to go and have trained very hard for this championship. What we want is for fans to come out in their numbers and we promise them there won’t be any dull moment throughout the duration of the fights”, they chorused
Meanwhile, the organisers have announced that awards will on that day be given out to some deserving Nigerians who have been supporting wrestling and humanity in the country.
Disclosing this, Secretary General of Pro-Wrestling Africa Olusesan Olukoya noted that the award which will be in two categories, will see seven persons receiving Award of Excellence For Service to Humanity. They are ; Dr. Adelaja Adenuga of Adelaja Adenuga Foundation, Rev. Ambassador. Samuel Ikpea, National Chairman Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Alhaji Dr. Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya (M.C. Olomo), Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, Lagos and Ifeanyi Eduzor, veteran Sports Journalist.
Others are; President of Global Wrestling Federacy, Golden Boy Dr. Jim McDowell, Bry Anderson of WrestleMap.com and former WBF Cruiserweight champion, Bash Ali.
He also announced that there will be International Royal Award For Pro- Wrestling Excellence for Madam Philo
James, former wrestling champion, Morris Atula and veteran wrestling coach and champion, Samuel Omare Omene-Johnson A.K.A Jimmy Palm De African Dream.
