The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has set up a three- man committee to
investigate allegations of financial mismanagement involving a ₦100 million gift from the Imo State Government to the Owerri branch of the association

The committee was also give an October 30, 2026 deadline to submit it’s report

NBA President, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, constituted the committee following concerns raised by branch members over the receipt, management and disbursement of the funds.

The committee comprises the NBA General Secretary, Afam Okeke; Third Vice-President, Iniobong Irene Pepple; and Treasurer, Esther Jimoh.

The panel has been directed to examine relevant financial records, receive submissions from individuals concerned and present its findings and recommendations to the NBA president on or before October 30.

The investigation comes amid growing disagreements within the Owerri branch over the handling of the money. The controversy has prompted calls for greater transparency and an extraordinary General Meeting to discuss the funds.

Reports indicate that 183 branch members had requested the meeting to address issues surrounding the receipt and disbursement of the ₦100 million grant.

However, the NBA President, stressed that setting up the committee should not be interpreted as a finding of wrongdoing against any individual.

She assured that anyone whose conduct comes under scrutiny would have a fair opportunity to respond to the allegations.

The NBA president also directed that all relevant financial records be preserved and made available to the committee to ensure a thorough examination of the matter.

The investigation is expected to help clarify the issues surrounding the funds and guide any further action by the association’s leadership.
