Emma Memorial Match: Lagos Agog As Samjason FC Honours Late Captain

There is excitement in the football community in Lagos ahead of Samjason FC memorial match in honour of her late captain, Emmanuel Otuojah.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos by Samjason FC chairman, Uchenna Samuel Eke, the new Samjason era will lockhorns with Emma Samjason era at Egan Grammar School football pitch on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 3.30 pm.

The late player nicknamed Don Emzzy died of kidney – related ailment at Igando General Hospital on Wednesday 30th of November, 2022, aged 22. He has since been buried at his home town in Cross River State.

Otuojah, before his demise began his illustrious career with Samjason FC before jetting out to Asia where he signed for top Indian outfit Gokulam Kerela FC in 2021.

Speaking with newstap.com.ng, Eke described Otuojah’s death as unfortunate and a colossal loss to the football family.

“It’s quite unfortunate that Emma’s death came at a time he was supposed to start reaping the fruit of his labour. Our hearts are still heavy and bleeding, what else can we do than to honour him? Eke lamented on arrival from his UK base for the match.

“He was a humble and dedicated player who gave his all to the club. A true hero worthy to be honoured. It’s a painful loss that has left a deep hole in our hearts.

“Let’s keep on remembering his family in our prayers. It’s our prayer for God to grant the family and loved ones the fortitude to keep on bearing the sad loss.”

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Lagos State Football Association ( LASFA) chieftains, as well as football technocrats from Alimosho Local Government Area are expected to be among the high – powered dignitaries that will grace the match.
