Fight Gist Media Award Introduces ‘Ultimate Sacrifice’ Category in Honour of Late Segun Success

The organizer of the Fight Gist Media Boxing Award has introduced a new category, the ‘Ultimate Sacrifice Award,’ in honor of the late former National and West African Light heavyweight champion, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju, who tragically collapsed and died during a boxing bout in Ghana.
According to a letter signed by the CEO of Fight Gist Media, Akinlade Abiodun Sunday, the Fight Gist Media Boxing Award Ceremony, which has been rescheduled for May 4th, 2025, will feature a category to celebrate Segun Success, who gave his all until the final bell.
“We decided to introduce this award category in honor of a life given for the love of the sport. Segun Success is a champion in every sense; his sacrifice will never be forgotten. He gave his all until the final bell,” said the CEO of Fight Gist Media.
The Fight Gist Award is an initiative aimed at encouraging and celebrating Nigerian boxers at both the amateur and professional levels; recognizing their achievements for themselves and their contributions to the country on the continental and global stages.
68 nominees, according to the organizer, will compete across 11 different categories that celebrate the sport’s top performers in 2024, including a category to honor the late Segun Success.
The event will take place inside the National Institute For Sports (NIS) Conference Hall, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Sunday.
