Football Stakeholders Praise LSFA, GTI/NFF On Impressive Federation Cup Finals

History was made Saturday at the iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, as Kwara United football club defeated and ended the runs of giant-killers Abakaliki FC, in the final of the male category of the 2025 President Federation Cup, to win a first ever title after 49 years.
The highly pulsating match was a game of wits and tactical puzzle that had the mammoth crowd at the prestigious Mobolaji Johnson Arena on the edge of their seats. After a scoreless 90 minutes regulations time, Tunde Sanni led Afonja Warriors triumphed 4-2 on penalties to pick up the exalted continental ticket.
Pundits and stakeholders were impressed by the unprecedented full house attendance at the stadium and they have been waxing lyrical about the acumen and resourcefulness of the Lagos FA, who worked tirelessly with the Nigeria Football Federation and GTI Assets Management and Trust Limited to ensure a near flawless organisation of the oldest national football championship in the country.
On his part, while appreciating the roles played by the leadership of the NFF and GTI/NFF, and of course, the Lagos State Government, in the successful hosting of the championship, Lagos FA boss Hajji Gafar Liameed, was full of praises for Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on his continued support and encouragement for youth empowerment through football.
“We’re very grateful for the support and encouragement from His Excellency, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. This is the second consecutive hosting of this prestigious championship and we’re thankful to the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Sports Commission and of course, the good people of this great state, for makin it happen.
“This board of the Lagos FA, remains committed to the development and growth of the game in the state, in line with the state government’s avowed agenda to encourage and empower the youth of the state,” the amiable football administrator stated.
The stakeholders had special commendations for the board of Lagos FA, for their determination and unflinching commitment towards ensuring a successful hosting of the second consecutive edition of the prestigious President Federation Cup.
