FOSFON President Abayomi Whesu Goes Home In Grand Style
The body of the late President of Football and other Sports Followership of Nigeria ( FOSFON) Prince Abayomi
Olumuyiwa Wilfred Whesu was on Friday, February, 5, 2026 laid to rest at the Atan Cementary, Yaba, Lagos
Prince Wesu died on December, 31, 2025 after a brief illness at the age of 69.
The carnival like burial ceremony which attracted family members friends and well wishers, members of both the Supporters Club and Eko Club, Surulere, Lagos, marked the end of the chapter of a man whom many described as an unassuming gentleman.
As a mark of respect to one of their departed member, the various supporters clubs came together to give him his last respect with some soul searching music from the Cementary to the reception hall at Eko Club.
Speaking after his body was committed to mother earth, his younger brother, Abayomi Idowu Whesu in an emotional ladden voice noted that he will highly miss him as he was so dear to him.
” The death of my senior brother came tome as a rude shock and uptill now, am yet to overcome the shock. Among our siblings, I was the only one too close to him and know all his secrets and it will take time before I come out from the shock.
” He has an open mind and will tell you his mind at all times. But all I can say is May his soul rest in peace and the good Lord grant us the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss”, he said amidst sobbing.
In his tribute, President General of Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo described Whesu as a fine gentleman whose presence will be highly missed by his friends and associates.
Ladipo while praying for the repose of his soul, called on God to console his family.
Also speaking on his death, President of Eko Club
Adedeji Surajudeen Lawal
described him as a committed member of the club whose services and fatherly advise will be highly missed.
” First of all, I want to commensurate with his family. His death was sudden and shocking, He was a committed member of the club and one time Sports Secretary and member of the Sports Committee.
” He was a person of integrity, lived a peaceful and disciplined life and was always ready to bring quality ideas that will move the club forward. We will greatly miss him and we pray God grants his soul eternal rest.
