Founder of Diamond Bank, MTN pioneer Chairman, Pascal Dozie, dies a day to his 86th birthday

Pascal Gabriel Dozie, a renowned Nigerian banker and entrepreneur, has passed away at the age of 85.

His death was confirmed by a family member, who revealed that he died in the early hours of Tuesday, just a day before his 86th birthday.

Dozie was the visionary founder of Diamond Bank, which became a leading financial institution in Nigeria before merging with Access Bank.

He also played a pivotal role as the pioneer Chairman of MTN Nigeria, driving the country’s mobile telecommunications revolution.

His legacy in Nigeria’s financial and telecommunications sectors remains profound.

Pascal Dozie, born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, demonstrated exceptional academic prowess from an early age. He attended Our Lady’s School in Emekuku before proceeding to the London School of Economics, where he earned a degree in economics and a master’s in administrative science.

Dozie founded Diamond Bank in 1991, transforming it into a highly respected financial institution in Nigeria. He later passed the leadership to his son, Uzoma Dozie.

As a pioneer chairman of MTN Nigeria, Dozie played a crucial role in the country’s telecom revolution. His leadership, characterized by humility, integrity, and vision, earned him national recognition, including the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) honor.

Pascal Dozie leaves a legacy of excellence and innovation in Nigeria’s economic development. He is survived by his wife, Chinyere, and their children.
