Gateway Games: Badminton Federation boss expresses satisfaction with players’ performance
After Day 4 of action packed display by badminton players at the ongoing National Sports Festival, President of the Federation, Francis Orbih has expressed satisfaction with the quality of the games noting that he’s happy that anytime a tournament like this is going on, there’s always room for upsets
Orbih told our correspondent at the Alake Sports Complex, Abeokuta, venue of badminton event that he’s happy at the level with which the sports is growing in the country even as he craved for more corporate support in organising national championships to enable players have opportunity to express themselves, learn more and improve on the game.
” I’ m highly satisfied with the players performance and you know that anytime we have a tournament like this, there are bound to be upsets. I also want to say that the general conduct of the festival has been very good and we are looking on to a more exciting games as the badminton event rounds up on Friday”, he said
On the recent sent off organised for some retired umpires on the sidelines of the event on Tuesday, he explained that it was done to appreciate people when they’re are alive and not when they’re gone we’ll start appreciating them.
” It was an opportunity for us to appreciate those gentlemen and lady that who have contributed to the development and growth of the game not only in Nigeria but all over the world.
” For me, such occasion help to inspire those coming behind them because that know that at sometime, they would also be appreciated for what they’ve done for the sports.
Orbih who was recently elected as a Council member of World Badminton Federation, said his membership of the Council puts Nigeria on the world stage.
” My membership of the council means that we’re going to be part of the politics and the decision making process as it affects the game all over the world.
“We’re hoping that we’re going to make our own positive contributions and make an impact on the growth and development of the game globally”, he concluded
