Otto Addo has been sacked as the Head Coach of the Black Stars by the Ghana Football Association after a poor run of results ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Addo has been under immense pressure since he failed to qualify the team to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations but his ability to get the ticket for the World Cup in North America earned him some life line.
However, situation turned for the worse as the team churned out poor results in a series of friendlies with few months to the fiesta.
Last week, the Black Stars got a humiliating 5-1 defeat against Austria before Monday’s 2-1 loss to Germany which appeared to be the last straw for Addo.
His sack was confirmed by the Association through it’s website early Tuesday morning.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo effective immediately.
The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.
The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”
He leaves with a record of 9 defeats, 5 draws and 8 wins while in charge.
With just 73 days to the 2026 World Cup, his departure has thrown the team in a state of uncertainty as they begin their World Cup campaign in Group L where they will face Panama on June 18 before clashing against England June 23. Their last group game comes up against Croatia four days later.
