seeks financial support to resuscitate game

Chief Executive Officer of Emeka Agba Foundation, Chief Emeka Agba ( Odagbulu ife Dagbulu Enyi of Igboland) said his new boxing promotion outfit known as Emeka Agba Boxing Promotions set for launch on Sunday October, 12, 2023 at the Brai Ayenote Boxing Gym, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos will change the face of professional boxing in the country just as he noted that many Floyd Mayweather and Anthony Joshua can still be found in the country.
He stated this Friday during a press conference to announce the coming of his outfit into boxing promotion.
According to him, the launch will be boasted with six bouts of professional fights already sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control ( NBB of C) .
He listed the fights as ; a National Super Welterweight Challenge Contest between Henry Abolokeji and Segun Akikun, National Lightweight Challenge involving Muyideen Ijalo and Hammed Adedokun and National Light Welterweight Challenge Contest between Lucky Oyibo and Ibrahim Shobusi.
Other fights are; National Lightweight Challenge Contest between Ezekiel Etukeren and Sunday Igiebor and a National Super Middleweight Challenge Contest involving Dimeji Salami and TBA while the main bout of the day will be an 8 rounds National Cruiserweight Challenge Contest between Amuel Ebohen and Godwin Ambrose.
Chief Agba noted that his decision to venture into boxing Promotion is to give talented Nigerian youths ample opportunity to develop their talent in boxing by creating an enabling environment that will enable them make a decent living for themselves as professionals just as is done in the United States and United Kingdom.
” My decision to go into boxing promotion is to give talented Nigerian youths opportunity to make big money in boxing. All over the world, boxers are making big money and I believe Nigeria should not be an exemption because we have the talents that can do it.
“You’ll remember that in 1974, October, 30 to be precise, the then President of Zaire now DR Congo, Mobutu Sese Seko organised a mega World heavyweight fight in his country known as ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ involving Mohammed Ali
and George Foreman where both boxers not only made millions of dollars but helped in puting the country in the world boxing map.
“Just recently, it was announced that Saudi Arabia will be hosting a World heavyweight unification bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. This is the type of thing we want to see happen in Nigeria where top rated world boxers will come here and fight and I believe that my boxing promotion outfit is capable of doing it and change the narratives of the game”, he stressed.
However, Chief Emeka Agba appealed to corporate Nigeria and public spirited individuals to give financial support to his promotion outfit to enable him achieve his set objectives.
