Gold-winning nursing mother eyes Olympic qualification, craves corporate support for shooting

A nursing mother, Mrs. Oduah Ozuazor Best, who won gold medal for ‘Team Delta’ in the Rifle Shooting category at the ongoing National Sports Festival, tagged ‘Gateway Games 2024’ says her target is to qualify for the an Olympics even as she appealed to governments at all levels and corporate organisations to invest in the sport to enable it compete with more popular sports in Nigeria.
Speaking to newstap.com.ng after her medal presentation at the Cultural Centre Abeokuta, venue of the shooting event, Mrs. Ozuazor, a nursing mother of a two-month-old baby, expressed immense joy at winning gold for her state and emphasized the potential of shooting as a medal-winning sport for Nigeria in global competitions.
“I’m highly excited with my achievement at the festival because as a nursing mother, nobody gave me the chance to be at the medals table but with hard work and unwavering commitment, I was able to make it
“Having won a gold medal at the country’s version of the Olympics, my target now is to train harder to represent the country at both the African Games and the Olympics”, she stated with confidence
The determined athlete, who overcame personal and physical challenges to reach the podium commended the President of Shooting Federation of Nigeria Navy Captain Bamidele Ayoade for all he’s doing to move the sports forward just as she stated that shooting deserves greater recognition and support.
” Kudos must go to the President of Shooting Federation, Navy Captain Bamidele Ayoade and his board members for what they’ve been doing to make Nigeria a force to be reckoned with on shooting globally and they need the encouragement of government at all levels to break new grounds
“Shooting has the potential to bring medals for Nigeria internationally and I believe that with better funding, training, and facilities, we can dominate the sport globally,” she comcluded.
