Following the alleged attack on a farmer, Olaniyan Daniel on January 6th and his death on 22 January 2025, in Aba-Oke Akinyele Local Government of Oyo State, member of the family of the deceased has called for government’s intervention and to beam searchlight into the incident in order to ensure justice.
The bereaved immediate junior brother, Olaniyan Rasheed who seems not satisfied with the way Police Officers of the State CID Oyo State are handling the criminal matter also urged concerned authorities to come to their aid so that justice can be served to Taiwo Shola Ajibade, Isiaka Oladigbolu, Sakiru Mustafa, Muritala Adigun, Bimbo Ogunniyi, Waheed Amusa and Omo Ayorinde that were mentioned by the deceased while four of them were presently being held by the Police.
According to Olaniyan Rasheed, his senior brother was on his building site with some bricklayers when the assailants came in one Toyota Sienna car and motorbike to attack the 47 year old Daniel Olaniyan where acidic substance was purred into his mouth which allegedly led to his death after spending few weeks in the hospital.
The deceased’s younger brother wept as he described his agony and pleaded with the State Government and other relevant authorities to support the family due to the twist noticed in Police handling the case and delay in charging the accused to court.
“My brother was on his building site when some men came to attack him and poured poisonous substance into his mouth. We rushed him to University College Hospital (UCH), but they could not admit him because of lack of electricity in the hospital; we were referred to Naomi Hospital Oke-Padre, where the Police came to take his statement.”
“A surgery was performed on him at the private hospital, but he gave up the ghost after spending about three weeks. The police eventually arrested about four people out of seven that were mentioned by my brother, while three suspects are still at large.
But we noticed the lawyer hired by the suspects has been boasting of having huge influence within the Police circle.”
“We are no more comfortable with the way some officers of the State Investigation Department (CID) Iyaganku Ibadan are handling the matter as if money is beginning to exchange hands because the case is supposed to have been charged to court, but the police are delaying the charges. We want the IGP to intervene and ensure justice for us,” Olaniyan Rasheed, junior brother to the deceased, explained to the press.
