Handball President Jibril Saidu Ojih Arrives Cairo for 40th IHF Congress

President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) Mr. Jibril Saidu Ojih (FNSQ) has arrived in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the 40th International Handball Federation (IHF) Congress, where major elections are expected to take place across global and continental handball bodies.

Mr. Jibril arrived in the Egyptian capital via Ethiopian Airlines, joining handball administrators from around the world for the high-level congress.

The IHF Congress will oversee elections into key executive positions of the Commonwealth Handball Association (CHA), the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB), including all its zones, as well as the International Handball Federation itself.

Speaking on his arrival, he described the congress as a defining moment for the growth of handball globally and in Africa.

“This congress presents another important opportunity to strengthen governance, transparency and development across all levels of handball. Africa and the Commonwealth must continue to play active roles in shaping the future of the sport,” Ojih said.

At the Commonwealth level, the Nigerian handball chief is contesting for the position of Secretary General of the Commonwealth Handball Association, where he is running unopposed and seeking a second term in office.

“I am deeply honoured by the confidence reposed in me by my colleagues across the Commonwealth. Running unopposed is a reflection of our collective efforts and shared vision for the growth of handball,” Ojih stated

Meanwhile, during the CAHB Congress held on Thursday, December 19, the HFN President was voted as the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Confederation of African Handball, a key role that places him in charge of overseeing the conduct of the continental elections.

“Being entrusted with the responsibility of chairing the CAHB Electoral Committee is a call to service. I assure all stakeholders of a credible, transparent and fair electoral process,” Mr. Jibril stated.

Also at the CAHB Congress, the President of the Niger Handball Federation emerged as the new Zone 3 President of CAHB taking over from corner immediate President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) Mr. Samuel Ocheho marking a significant development in the zonal leadership structure of African handball.

The CAHB elections are expected to take place later tonight, with delegates from across the continent set to elect new leaders who will steer African handball in the next phase of its development.
