Eagles problem beyond Rohr -Asomugha

Former Super Eagles and Rangers International of Enugu defence strongman, Azuka Asomugha has declared that Super Eagles problem goes beyond the incumbent manager, Gernot Rohr.

The USA based Nigerian ex international while x raying the Friday night game against Algeria said he is not surprised the Eagles failed to rise to the occasion insisting that the problem of the team is foundational.

Asomugha noted that the Eagles would continue to struggle given the fact that the basic challenges facing Nigerian football has not been addressed.

He noted that Nigerians should not expect the Eagles to fly when the problems facing the nation’s domestic league has not been solved.

In his words: “I saw the Eagles play against Algeria and I wasn’t surprised with what I saw. Some people may be calling for Rohr’s head, but the truth is that the problem goes beyond Rohr. I agree with those who feel Rohr is not good enough for the Eagles. It’s obvious Eagles are not in the right hand technically but the problem goes beyond Rohr. Get any other coach to take charge, nothing would change until we address the foundational problem. We need to take a look at our league and make it strong. A country’s national team can not be solid if your league is not solid. Any country whose league is not strong can not have a solid national team. If your league can’t produce five or six national team players, then forget it,” Asomugha said.

He stressed that the NFF must go back to the drawing board and work to make the domestic league better as that is the only way to get the Eagles begin to fly again.

He insisted that in football, there is no short cut to success as success comes through proper planning.

“Nigeria has got the talents but you must harness the talents properly to start winning…there is no miracle any coach can perform if we don’t plan well,” Asomugha said.
