After recording a first round technical knockout over his challenger, Ghanaian, Emmanuel Quartey last Friday at the Indoor Sports Hall of National Stadium Surulere Lagos former WBF Featherweight Champion,
Ridwan ‘Scorpion’ Oyekola has declared that his fans are yet to see the real champion in him.
Scorpion who relocated from his Japan base where he went to further his professional career, had no difficulties stopping his boastful challenger who was no match to his punching prowess.
Speaking shortly after the victory, he stated that having stayed in Japan where he had six bouts winning four, drawing one and losing one, he has garnered enough experience to face any opponent in his weight category just as he commended the promoter of the fight, Ayodele Olusola A.K.A Sola Ford, CEO of Core Afrique Boxing Promotions for believing in him.
“I prepared very well for this fight both here in Nigeria and Japan and I’m happy ending it so early as it will serve as a lesson to other boxers who want to challenge me.
” It’s equally important I commend CEO of Core Afrique Boxing Promotions, Sola Ford for all he has done to make me a champion and I promise not to disappoint him and my numerous fans.
Ridwan who declared that his ultimate ambition is to become a world champion explained that he’ll be ever grateful to boxing as it has changed his life from an okada rider to a champion.
” I want to tell you that boxing has really changed my life. I was once an okada rider but immediately I embraced boxing, I’ve been able to travel outside the country and I will continue to cherish the sports.
In the other fights of the day, Toheeb Wasiu recorded a unanimous decision over Sunday Abudu in their heavyweight challenge contest while Adeyemi Adekanla defeated Semiu Olapade by second round technical knockout in the light welterweight fight just as Oto Joseph triumphed over Bartholomey Abuchi by unanimous decision in another light welterweight challenge contest.
Also Riliwan ‘Baby Face’ Babatunde overpowered Isiaka Raimi by unanimous decision in their welterweight fight with Ibrahim Taofeek stopping Stephen Agbor in the fourth round of their eight round welterweight challenge with Rasheed Adeyemo defeating Lateef Sikiru by unanimous decision in the middle weight category just as Lateef Azeez recorded a third round technical knockout over Bolaji Ewe Ade with Kabiru Tobowali recording another third round technical knockout over his challenger, Joe John in the cruiserweight challenge contest.
Fighting Police woman Celina Agwu defeated Mary Eze in the third round of their light heavyweight challenge contest while in the other female fight, Abosede Akinsanya beat Tina James by a third round technical knockout
Meanwhile Secretary General of Nigerian Boxing Board of Control NBB of C, Remi Aboderin has assured that the sanctioning body will continue to create enabling environment for the growth of professional boxing in the country.
The fight which attracted many boxing enthusiasts was sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control ( NBB of C)
