Igali bids farewell to Bayelsa contingents as they depart Yenagoa for Edo ahead of Niger Delta Games
The Bayelsa State Government through the honourable commissioner for Sports Development, Bayelsa State, honourable Daniel Igali, has conveyed his support to Bayelsa contingents ahead of the Niger Delta Games, which is slated 19th February to 26th February 2026 in Benin, Edo State capital.
Daniel Igali in a solidarity message on behalf of the Bayelsa State Government, said the Niger Delta Games offer states in the region opportunity to discover new set of champions that will represent their various states and Nigeria at large in international sporting events.
The world and Olympic champion maintained that the importance of grassroots events that offer developmental growth can never be over emphasized, commending NDDC and Dunamis-Icon Limited for the positive avenue to impact young people in the region through sports
Honourable Igali, who urged Bayelsa State athletes to be good ambassadors of the state, charged them to compete fairly.
However, the honourable commissioner said that despite the games being a developmental programme for young Niger Deltans, Bayelsa contingents are in Edo to compete squarely.
“I want to set the record straight. Developmental programmes are beyond winning laurels for us although we would be happy to win, but it’s about the future of these young athletes.”
“That being said, we should be going to the games to compete just as everyone else. You know what Bayelsa State has become in the sports industry, and on behalf of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, i encourage you to continue in that winning trajectory”.
“Best of luck as you represent the State and our Ijaw culture.” Igali said.
